"Bradford Women's Aid provides support, assistance and accommodation to women and children experiencing domestic abuse. We are run by women for women.
Background to Bradford Women's Aid
Bradford Women's Aid (Charity No 10099351 / Company No 4802152) was set up in 1985 to provide short term refuge accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. The refuge provides supported accommodation for 6 women and their children. It is staffed by a team of refuge workers including an Asian refuge worker who provides language and cultural support for Asian women and 2 part time children's workers. An On Call Service is provided for outside office hours.
The floating support service (established in 2002) comprises 2 teams: resettlement and outreach. The resettlement service provides support for women and children who are moving out of refuge or other accommodation into their own tenancies and the services is offered for up to 2 years depending on need. The outreach service (established in 1998) provides community based support for women in Bradford who are experiencing domestic abuse. Both of the floating support services are staffed by teams including Asian floating support workers and the outreach team now includes as Eastern European worker who speaks Czech.

Values:
A feminist ethos - we share the view that in our society women (and girls) are viewed as less than equal to men and that violence and abuse against women (and girls) is perpetuated by this system.
Compassion and respect - for all those that we come into contact with at work : service users, staff, trustees, volunteers, students, and those from other agencies.
Service user led - this means we will ensure that our services are provided to meet the needs expressed by our service users and that we will consult widely and appropriately to gain feedback about our services and about any proposed changes or developments to our services.
Ethical - we will be aware of ethics in our work, use ethical companies and work within our environmental policy. Inclusivity and anti-oppressive practice-we will monitor staff, board members, volunteers and service users to make sure our services are offered to all and all staff will undertake training in anti-oppressive practice so that we can effectively challenge oppressive behavior.
Quality of service - we undertake to evidence this through meeting requirements of quality assurance initiatives such as Investors in People, PQASSO and Quality Assurance Framework (Supporting People).
Empowerment - We provide assistance to our service users so they can develop the skills and confidence to do things for themselves and become independent.
Professional integrity - We ensure that we are aware of what constitutes professional behavior and we work within professional boundaries at all times."
