from their website
"We believe in the right of all women to live free from fear and abuse.

Chester Women’s Aid has been in existence since 1976, setting up Chester Refuge and running it with volunteers. 1989 marked a change when the Committee joined with a Housing Association to provide paid staff to support residents. 2002 brought more changes as the charity Committee and the housing provider parted company with the charity withdrawing from the management of the refuge.

The Charity continued support to the refuge, and other specialist domestic abuse services, establishing the following aims:

Provision of support to women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, in the form of grants for crisis needs and funding for activities

Raising awareness of and being an independent voice on issues surrounding domestic abuse

Monitoring the provision of services for women who have experienced domestic abuse and promoting good practice amongst other agencies

Supporting the availability of good quality accommodation for women and children who have experienced domestic abuse

Supporting and promoting interagency co-operation and knowledge exchange

Our current programme of work includes:

White Ribbon Day

International Women’s Day Festival

Fundraising to support local women and children

Supporting the local training programme"
