Featured foundation: The Dawn Brancheau Foundationhttp://www.dawnsfoundation.org/
I will start by being brutally honest: up until half an hour ago I didnt even know there was a Dawn Brancheau Foundation. I had been looking at a documentary that I found extremely interesting, and there it was said as closing remark that the foundation existed so I started to read the website and immediately decided it was more than worth some more noise.
The Dawn Brancheau Foundation says it is dedicated to improving the lives of children and animals in need, inspiring others to follow their dreams, and promoting the importance of community service.
Among their completed projects are a playground at central Florida Childrens home, a play yard in Orange County Animal Services and a roadside clean-up in Cedar Lake. Certainly a patchwork of things to help with! The last event was the Dream Big walk that took place on September 15th for the benefit of The Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Lake, Holy Name Vacation Bible School, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, LYDIA, Matanya’s Hope, Perry Ferrini Dog Park, South Suburban Humane Society, and the Lake County Fairgrounds, as well as The Dream Big Scholarship at Andrean High School. Another true patchwork of causes to support.
Before I saw the documentary and read the foundations website, Dawn Brancheau was little more than a newspaper headline to me. All I knew of her was how she died, but I knew very little of how she had lived. I think, when a death becomes something of a media circus, it is all too easy to lose sight of who a person was. The Dawn Brancheau Foundation strives to fill that gap in peoples knowledge, doing the things she would have done had she still been with us.
