From their website
"Day to day management of the The Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline is shared by the Service and Contract managers who have been with the organisation since it opened in 2000.
In addition to the two senior staff there is a pool of paid and voluntary call handlers and part time admin / stats workers..
The Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline established its first board of trustees in 2013. Prior to this from 2000 the helpline operated as a collective with an advisory group which was used as a sounding board for the development / refinement of services.
The charity’s constitution currently allows for a maximum of 7 board members and at present there are 4. It is hoped that this number will increase over time. The Chair is an experienced voluntary sector manager, the Treasurer works in social care and has a background in financial management.
Our definition of abuse
Domestic abuse/violence or intimate partner abuse / violence is a violation of human rights. It involves violent, abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by an adult against a partner or former partner to control and dominate that person.
Family abuse rather than the term domestic abuse reflects the diversity of victim’s backgrounds, their situations and their communities’ understanding of domestic abuse/ violence. It also reflects the age of perpetrators and victims who may not have reached adulthood.
Family abuse / violence involves any use of force, be it physical, sexual, verbal or in any way threatening which is aimed at controlling another family or community member and which undermines that person’s wellbeing. It can be directed towards an individual, family, community or particular group.
We at The Scottish Domestic Abuse Helpline embrace this term which is broader than the usual mainstream definition of domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse / family abuse creates fear and causes physical and/or psychological harm. Living with abuse has a profound effect upon children, unborn children and young people.
The above definition includes abuse in same sex relationships."
