"Basildon Women's Aid is a charitable organisation providing a refuge for women and their children who have been victims of domestic violence, which may be physical, mental or sexual.

Many hundreds of women have taken refuge with us since the refuge opened in 1977. The refuge offers an escape route from violence and a chance to seek alternatives to a life of danger, isolation and fear.
Almost all domestic violence is directed by men against women, but it can and does occur in lesbian and gay relationships and in a very small minority of cases, by women against men. Although this web-site can be used by everyone who is in a violent relationship, it is mainly addressing women.
